OotiniCast Episode 298

Plenty of SWTOR news this week! Game Update 5.1: Defend the Throne is here. Then in this week’s livestream, Game Update 5.2: The War for Iokath was revealed which culminates in a new Operation.

1. Introduction

You can find Blay’s awesome Imperial heroics spreadsheet here.

2. Tip of the week

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Hegh-Qih! Thanks to Kyzla for entering.

Here is Hegh-Qih’s outfit for Vette crafted with Armormech:

Please send your tips to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Tuesday for a chance to win a Taunfawn or M8-3R droid code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Cheap server transfers (intra-region is 90 CC, between EU and US is 150 CC) will continue for the foreseeable future, with at least a week’s warning when (if?) their original prices are restored.
  • Game Update 5.1: Defend the Throne was deployed on Tuesday.
  • Patch 5.1a was deployed on Thursday afternoon to add the five new Uprisings to the Group Finder.
  • Command Tokens for previously obtained Command Crates are granted to a given character when they log in.
  • The change to Bolster in Warzones (from item rating 250 to 232) was made to ensure that the Bolstered level wasn’t higher than the best gear in the game (currently item rating 242).
  • BioWare held “A Look Ahead Livestream” on Thursday afternoon, with a follow-up post summarising what was discussed, which included the announcement of Game Update 5.2: The War for Iokath which includes a story arc culminating in a daily area, and the first boss (Tyth) of a five-boss Operation. The class companions Quinn (Sith Warrior) and Elara (Trooper) will return as part of the story arc.
  • It has been officially confirmed that Carrie Fisher will not reprise her role as Princess or General Leia Organa as a digital puppet.

4. Force Feedback

Our old friend SWTOR Miner believes that the first boss of the new Operation bears a striking resemblance to a Horde Trooper from Masters of the Universe:

In one of our earliest episodes recorded on YouTube, Liebearoha caught Chill midway through his vocal warm-up exercises:

Ajay confirmed that we get over 1000 CXP for completing a KotFE or KotET chapter in Master Mode.

To find out more about StreamingHawke’s rebranding, you can check out his Twitch channel, contact him via email using streaminghawke@yahoo.com, on Twitter via @StreamingHawke or on Facebook.

Our guest Liebearoha’s walker seems to be able to walk through solid metal!

To address Darklighter’s query about whether Galaxy of Heroes makes HK-47 and other Old Republic characters canon, it seems Pablo Hidalgo of the Star Wars story group has already answered this fairly definitively ([1], [2]).

4. Force Feedback

Dekion passed on that the NYCantina16 code still works! Log into your account on swtor.com, and go here to redeem the code.

Billy B clearly has significant nerd cred:

Johnny (Born to eat bacon!) has a most unwelcome visitor to his Stronghold:

The 20th anniversary of the 501st Legion will be celebrated in Orlando at the 501st Legion Bash.

Ajay believes there may be a bit of a balance problem with Mercs and Commandos…

CapsSlapshot (Slan) refers those interested in Operations to check out Hayete’s guides, available on his site or his YouTube channel. He’s willing to ask questions via hayetejc@gmail.com.

Dekion referred us to this Reddit post that asked at what point in SWTOR’s past would you like to return to if you could?

OotiniCast Episode 294

On this week’s end-of-year show, we discuss Carrie Fisher’s passing and how it was commemorated by many SWTOR players.  We also recall what was added to the game in 2016, and express some wishes for what could be added in 2017. Happy New Year!

1. Introduction

When visiting his parents, Chill rediscovered some old friends from his childhood:

3. Holofeed

  • Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia, passed away on 27 December. Many hundreds of SWTOR players have been paying their respects by visiting Castle Organa on Alderaan, as can be seen in this fan-made tribute.
  • Groopur of our own Ootini Knights was one of those who participated:

  • Among several ideas of how BioWare could celebrate her memory is this petition requested that an Alderaan Stronghold be added.
  • It seems that the “Myserious Empire of Zakuul” was only listed in the Polish version of the Star Wars: Galactic Atlas.

4. Force Feedback

Thanks to our latest Ootini Patron, Ulldu!

Marcus has a most generous and perceptive wife, as his Christmas gifts show:

Bacon-born Johnny also dressed most appropriately when seeing Rogue One:

3. Holofeed

  • After Game Update 5.1 is deployed on 24 January, the lass boss of an operation is guaranteed to drop an unassembled gear piece for a specific slot, with the bosses leading up to the last boss having an increasing chance of dropping an unassembled gear piece for a random slot.
  • The discipline your character has determines what type (tank, DPS or healer) of gear you will receive.
  • The top 96 players of the various Advanced Classes will be finalised by Game Update 5.1 as BioWare eliminates those players from the running who were cheating.
  • Last Tuesday 20 December was SWTOR’s 5 year anniversary.
  • Dulfy has an excellent guide to the 5th anniversary and Life Day events.

4. Force Feedback

Dekion let us know that our guildmate Fyonha has finally getting her “full set of doctorate set bonus gear”. Congratulations Fy!

Jake knows how to dress appropriately when seeing Rogue One. You can purchase your own shirt in our store here.

Our guildmate LiebeAroha is continuing to vanish on a regular basis:

Hawke recommends these videos showing the SWTOR story from the Jedi Knight’s perspective:
