Podcast: It’s a trap!
I too am a fresh refugee from the Wall of Light server moved to the Harbinger server. I’ve been placed in a queue to sign onto the server several times since the character transfers. Does this mean there’s a limit as to how many people can sign on at once to any given server? Although I’ve only had to wait maybe 2 minutes to sign on, I read complaints in chat about having paying a subscription to queue instead of play. Have you guys ran into the queue since you transferred?
It’s a great question, as I’ve been wondering why their phasing technology doesn’t prevent queues altogether! It should, in theory, but it seems there’s some other bottleneck which does limit how many they allow onto a server at any given time (I’m guessing concurrent database traffic, but it’s just speculation). We’ll talk more about it in episode 33.
The super-server/mega-server upgrade they’ve mentioned previously hasn’t happened yet–I suspect that’ll remove the population cap entirely, allowing them to allow as many people on as they have hardware to support it. And they can always add more hardware!
I haven’t seen a queue myself, but I tend to log in before peak time. The other guys have indeed seen queues on The Harbinger.
I have never heard Teo so much as chuckle. Could someone please make him laugh. Otherwise, I will be forced to believe he is a droid.
He does chuckle, though that may well be part of his advanced protocols.
