OotiniCast Episode 148

In the news we cover what’s coming in Game Update 2.8.1, the Operative/Scoundrel Q&A, and the rumoured SWTOR summer pass. We then present our Bomber roundtable, the third in our Galactic Starfighter series.

1. Introduction

2. Tip of the week and Trivia Question

Congratulations to this week’s winner, The Pummeler! Thanks to Fatalspark, Koopa’lach, Nepthen, Tobzors, Marvinheim, AmonRe and Greg for entering.

This week Chill has come up with a trivia question! It has to do with the famous quote that Harrison Ford said while trying to perform the dialog in Star Wars: “George, you can type this sh*t, but you sure as hell can’t say it”. Of course, in spite of the relative difficulty of the George Lucas dialog, they did mostly stick to the script. But give me three instances throughout the six movies of times when non-scripted dialog did make it into the final movie.

Please send your answers to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Wednesday for two chances to win an M8-R3 code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Game Update 2.8.1 will be deployed next Tuesday (1 July). It will include the fix for the very old problem of Scoundrels and Operatives being sometimes locked in place if affected by a ballistic effect while using Scamper or Exfiltrate respectively.
  • Along with Game Update 2.8.1 will be the end of double Fleet Requisition and credits from Galactic Starfighter, that has been running since Game Update 2.8. In its place, all players will receive double Ranked Warzone Commendations, Warzone Commendations and credits for both Ranked and regular Warzone matches (the rewards from the dailies and weeklies will not be affected). This will continue until Game Update 2.8.2 (which will most likely drop on 22 July, or possibly 29 July).
  • The item rarities shown on the tooltips for the currently-available Star Cluster Nightlife Pack are incorrect, though the actual rarity and the associated unlock prices in the Collections UI are correct. The Star Cluster Nightlife Pack is being embargoed with Game Update 2.8.1; it will be replaced by the Club Vertica Nightlife Pack, which will be available until Game Update 2.9 is deployed on 19 August.
  • The first double XP week will also begin on Tuesday 1 July at 1am CDT (7am BST, 4pm AEST) and conclude the following Tuesday (8 July) at 2am CDT (8am BST, 5pm AEST).
  • If you are not currently subscribed, you are eligible for the SWTOR Summer Pass, which will allow you to purchase 4 months of subscription for $US39.99 (and receive a total of 200 Cartel Coins, without the 500-600 Cartel Coin stipend that regular subscribers receive).
  • Hillary Nicole, also known as Pokket (@Pokketsays, YouTube), has joined the Community Team as their new Community Coordinator.
  • The latest three questions from the class representative programme have been answered for Scoundrels and Operatives.

4. Community

Our guildmate Aaree has started what has become an extremely interesting thread on our forums about how players choose the names of their characters. Feel free to contribute your own!

The Aurebesh Trainer has been updated to include words from all the movies in the original Star Wars trilogy.

OotiniCast Episode 147

This week we talk about the patches that fixed all the things, and the Community Cantina held in LA last week. In our discussion, veteran pilots Dan and Dunedai return to present the state of Galactic Starfighter.

1. Introduction

2. Tip of the week

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Dekion! Thanks to Darksplat, Dunedai, Nepthen, Dekarch and Ludwig for entering.

Ludwig’s short video demonstrating his tip may be found here.

Please send your tips to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Wednesday for a chance to win a M8-R3 code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Patch 2.8a was released on Friday morning to address the root cause of the area transition issues, which turned out to be related to the load generated by people queueing for 16-man operations via the Group Finder.
  • The area transition issues were the reason why some players lost ELO rating after leaving the queue (rather than declining a match). This was fixed with Patch 2.8a.
  • Patch 2.8b was subsequently deployed on Wednesday morning, to fix two remaining issues.
  • The capability of moving system messages in the Interface Editor that was mentioned in the Game Update 2.8 patch notes turned out not to have made it in, but is planned for Game Update 2.8.2.
  • While the removal of the Nightmare Power buff from the bosses in Nightmare Mode Dread Fortress has made the damage dealt equivalent to Hard Mode, it is intended that their health remains unchanged at the Nightmare Mode level.
  • A Community Cantina was held last Thursday (12 June) in LA. Dulfy has a post with the images contained on the flash drive provided to attendees. You can download the audio provided to us by LethalXBacon here.

While the Bad Feeling Podcast is one of our favourites, we particularly recommend episode 18, in which Chuck and Brian interview addiction specialist Hannah Milford about the in-game casino introduced to celebrate Soovada.

As a way of helping Ootini Knights and Ragers get to know each other, Zac suggests posting pictures of our pets in this thread on our forum.

OotiniCast Episode 144

We talk about what’s coming in Game Update 2.8 next week. Following on from last week’s UI discussion, we then give an overview of the addons we use.

1. Introduction

2. Tip of the week

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Hagu Pally! Thanks to Corwynn, Ludwig VanCover and Caligari for entering.

Corwynn’s tip about increasing the max camera distance required editing the file shown below, substituting “ACCOUNTNAME” for the name you enter when logging into the game (and USERNAME is your Windows user name):

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings\ACCOUNTNAME_Account

The line in that file to alter looks like the following:

Controls_CameraMaxDistance = 25

Corwynn alters that value to 225. You can put in any value you like, though there’s presumably a maximum beyond which it has no effect.

Please send your tips to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Wednesday for a chance to win a M8-R3 code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Game Update 2.8 is coming next Tuesday (10 June)
  • Eric Musco and Rob Hinkle discussed the changes in Game Update 2.8 during a live stream on Thursday 29 May. Mae (co-host of TOROCast) provided her own commentary in a blog post.
  • The chat bug that has been affecting some users will be fixed in Game Update 2.8.
  • The second trailer in the Galactic Living series about Galactic Strongholds was released (also on YouTube).
  • The next Community Cantina will be in Los Angeles on Thursday 12 June, in conjunction with E3.
