OotiniCast Episode 205

OotiniCast Episode 204

After our usual coverage of the news, Kuze presents his ideas for improving SWTOR, along with some additional suggestions from the community.

1. Introduction

The following gallery contains Chill’s screenshots from his #StatueOrBust adventure!

3. Holofeed

  • Patch 3.2a was deployed with little warning on Thursday morning.
  • The Epic Story XP Boost was intended to be available to subscribers at 8am Pacific on 4 May; however, it wasn’t until later in the morning that it reached all players.
  • The rewards for Season 5 will be teased in a blog post later in May.
  • The issue with the spelling of Season 4 titles will be resolved in Game Update 3.2.1.
  • The Black-Silver Crystal that was a reward in Season 4 will also be a reward in subsequent seasons.
  • The endless war against win-traders and trolls in Ranked PvP continues.
  • The changes proposed for all the healing Disciplines have been postponed, and thus will not appear as originally intended in Game Update 3.2.1.
  • Game Update 3.2.1 has been removed from the PTS. The next PTS will be hosting Game Update 3.3, not Game Update 3.2.2.
  • Credit sellers were taken down en masse as a result of a long-running investigation.
  • On Thursday last week, a second round of more severe punishments were meted out to players accessing the Colossal Monolith encounter on Ziost ahead of its release on 4 May. No further action was required as no more players had taken advantage of the exploit on Friday or over the weekend.
  • In Electronic Arts’ (EA) Q4 2015 earnings call, they confirmed that EA’s E3 presentation would be on 15 June 2015, the date associated with #FallenEmpire at the Anaheim Community Cantina.

6. Sarlacc Digest

This one is free, BioWare. – Oni

Shown below are Kuze’s ideas to help retain existing players, and bring in new ones. Thanks to ElionD for her wishlist, and to Pnnick, Freedious, Rose Marie, Ferrous Terran, Laurie M, Brian (of the Bad Feeling Podcast) and Chong for their contributions.

PvP/GSF Ideas

  • Cross server queuing, even if it’s just between like servers or make super servers.
  • New 8v8 PvP Maps, and after cross server maybe some 12v12s
  • Statues as a PvP season reward (Top 10 on Server or so) in the Combat area with Players names on Plaques.
  • Rework Bolster for PvP. Just give everyone base stats that will never trump the lowest level of PvP gear regardless of what they have equipped. Once a piece of expertise gear is equipped that base value should be over written. What a crazy world it would be for people to have to play on skill alone. The min/maxing aspect of PvP should be done with PvP gear.
  • Add new maps and play styles to GSF. A team race through an old ship, asteroid, or space station would be awesome. A defend and attack swap map. A escort map where you have to protect a team member that is carrying a bomb to the enemy’s spaceport.

PvE Ideas

  • A PvE Star fighter encounter in the beginning of or during an operation. Even if the first introduction of this was a trench run style using fixed turrets and obstacles instead of an advanced AI battle.
  • New Hard mode Flashpoints similar to Lost Island (before all the nerfs) that are like mini ops with decent loot drops.

Quality of Life

  • Multi-spec with gear and action bar changer.
  • In game calendar for guilds and events.  Note: would have been great for Ziost!
  • Update GTN and all selection windows for better filtering/sorting. This goes for the character selection screen as well. I would like to order my characters and have them stay in order. For example, filter by not owned (decos, pets, mounts and maybe armor).
  • Mouse over raid frame with keybinds
  • Make bound to legacy the most restrictive (or unlocakble via craftable item or legacy 50)
  • Legacy wide search
  • Fix minor bugs more frequently to give the game a more polished feel so players don’t get frustrated and lead them down a Bioware hating road.

General

  • Reasons to have a high level of Valor and Legacy. (Valor e.g. PvP Gear discount for Valor rating X.) (Legacy e.g. Things like the ability to purchase 12x xp, Reveal previously explored areas and speeder/quick travel points as Legacy privilege only!)
  • Mini games, this can also be tied to a phone app as suggested last show.
  • Update seeker droid with new loot and UI.
  • Short Speed Boost while mounted similar to Rocket Boots.
  • Stronghold Dailies to earn new decos and cosmetic items. They could be simple fetch or crafting quest.
  • Portable GTN
  • SWTOR Advertising on TV
  • More platforming challenges! This could be for achievements, special loot, new datacrons, etc.
  • A site to view peoples Equipment, Achievements, Disciplines, and Utilities. Like WoWs Armory but we could call it ???
  • Fix the slot machine

Crafting

  • Stop nerfing crafting and start working to make it viable. Don’t get me wrong, I love my 8hr stims but things like this really take away from crafting. We had a lack of resource nodes in RotHC and too many in SoR; a balance needs to be found.
  • Give the player’s character an option to craft an item immediately with something like a 2hr cooldown. If you want more ideas I’m sure they’re out there.
  • All decos added into the game should require deco kits
  • A way to send companions out on alts all from one toon
  • Craftable sparkle powder

OotiniCast Episode 203

Game Update 3.2: Rise of the Emperor is here! We walk through its features and our initial impressions. Some opinions are then expressed on the latest exploit and BioWare’s rapid response. We also discuss the latest round of class changes in Game Update 3.1.2 on the PTS.

1. Introduction

2. Tip of the week

Please send your tips to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Tuesday for a chance to win a Taunfawn or M8-R3 droid code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Game Update 3.2: Rise of the Emperor is here! It has its own trailer, along with the usual patch notes.
  • Courtney Woods (BioWare Writer) has written a two part story (part one, part two), titled “The Sixth Line”, providing some backstory for the militaristic Jedi we will encounter on Ziost.
  • It has been confirmed that there is more content in Game Update 3.2 that will unlock on 1 May at 8am PDT (4pm BST, Tue 1am AEST), without requiring further patching.
  • On 4 May (Star Wars Day, “May the Fourth” be with you!), all players will get the M4-1S astromech droid pet. In addition, subscribers will be granted the Epic Story XP Boost (12x XP) that will remain in the game until Fall (23 Sep – 21 Dec). Eric Musco (Community Manager) discussed how it will work, along with the quality of life changes made to enhance the accelerated leveling experience. Note that the Epic Story XP Boost will not affect the Shadow of Revan content (levels 55-60).
  • It seems that the new Lair boss(es) that will become accessible on 4 May can be fought now via some nefarious means to get into the currently restricted area. This has been confirmed to be an exploit, and appropriate punitive action has already been taken against those who’ve taken advantage of this exploit, with more to come for players who subsequently utilise the exploit ahead of 4 May.
  • There are more class changes in Game Update 3.2.1 on the PTS affecting:

Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars Celebration was held in Anaheim, California, from Thursday 16 April through to Sunday 19 April.

On the first day, the second teaser trailer for The Force Awakens was released.

Electronic Arts (EA) released a reveal trailer for Star Wars Battlefront. In their first developer diary, they described the “Battle of Jakku” DLC as “the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert in the Outer Rim”.

The plot of the spin-off movie Rogue One, which will release on 16 December 2016, was announced.

Alexander Freed announced that his novel Star Wars: Battlefront: Twilight Company will be released in Fall from Del Rey.

It was also revealed during the Del Rey panel that Alan Dean Foster would be writing the novelisation of The Force Awakens.

At the One Big Story – Star Wars Canon panel, it seemed to be confirmed that while the Old Republic era is not officially canon, they are happy for BioWare to continue doing what they’re doing unchanged.

In the closing ceremony, it was announced that Star Wars Celebration would be held in London (UK) on 15-17 July 2016.

Community Cantina

The livestream of the Community Cantina held in conjunction with Star Wars Celebration on Saturday 18 July can be viewed on ESL’s Twitch channel. In summary:

  • Recap of Game Update 3.2
  • From Star Wars Day (4 May) an Epic Story XP Boost (12x XP) will be applied to all subscribers for an indeterminate duration. It can be removed using an in-game item, the White Acute Module purchasable for 0 credits from a new Gree vendor on both Fleets.
  • The new Yavin 4 Stronghold was announced, though its arrival in-game wasn’t given. It will provide more hooks than the existing Strongholds, including more larger hooks.
  • The QA team will be required to beat all future Operation encounters with an all-melee group, to ensure that the current issue with melee in Operations isn’t repeated.
  • It was confirmed that there is more to Game Update 3.2 than was available on the PTS.1

After the livestream, Bill and Chong heard many answers given by the developers when talking to attendees, which we talk through during the show.

The following limited release picture of Master Surro, leader of the Sixth Line, was provided by Bill:

OotiniCast Episode 200

Plenty of news, including the deployment of Game Update 3.1.2, featuring the Low Slash bug, the latest quality of life improvements from Game Update 3.2 on the PTS, and much more.

1. Introduction

This week we welcome two new guests, Jeremy and Sechari.

Jeremy’s (@Darksplat) gaming history started with a Commodore 16 (I didn’t know that was a thing!), and he’s always been a Sega console fanboy (with such hits as DaytonaUSA). His first and only MMO prior to SWTOR was Lego Universe. He’s currently a proud member of the Ewokalypse Now (Republic) and Warchild (Empire) guilds on The Harbinger.

Sechari (@iamsechari) is a streamer, hosting his show The Inner Sanctum on most nights starting at 10pm Central Time (US) on his Twitch channel, twitch.tv/sechari. Be sure to like his Facebook page! He’s the guildmaster of the Vindictive guild (Empire) on The Bastion.

Please send your tips to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Tuesday for a chance to win a Taunfawn or M8-R3 droid code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Game Update 3.1.2 was deployed on Tuesday morning (US). On Thursday morning, Patch 3.1.2 was deployed to fix the Low Slash bug.
  • During the discussion about BioWare priorities for fixing bugs, Jeremy references this forum thread about the still-broken 4-piece bonus for healing Commandos and Mercenaries.

  • My Reddit post that details how the XP boosts, guild XP bonus and five tiers of Legacy unlocks work with double XP can be found here.
  • The combat team gave their promised update on the current state of Marauders and Sentinels, with a follow-up post clarifying the analysis of the data used to support their reasoning.
  • The last update to Game Update 3.2 was applied on the PTS.
  • There are many promising ideas for improving the Collections UI in this forum thread. Please add own, as BioWare is actively looking at this!
  • Courtney Woods (Writer) has written another story, Regrets, featuring Theron Shan and his father, Jace Malcom.
  • You can use this page to pre-register for community events, including the upcoming Community Cantina to be held at Star Wars Celebration. They will be verifying that those in the pre-registration line at the Cantina did in fact pre-register, by checking usernames and email addresses. While pre-registration does not guarantee entry, BioWare is confident that their venue capacity should be sufficient.
  • The six Star Wars movies will be available for purchase as digital download on Friday 10 April from various retailers. There is now an awesome trailer with scenes from all six movies.

OotiniCast Episode 198

We talk double XP, Rakghouls, striated color crystals, the latest from Game Update 3.2, along with Star Wars books, toys and games. And, of course, Kai Zykken’s Mega-, Micro- and Stationary Mounts!

1. Introduction

2. Tip of the week

Here is the complete list of companion gifts, sorted by type and grade, that Dephine sent us:

Companion_Gifts

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Avisans! Thanks to Jerrold, GasGuy, Dephine, Bellazar and Jezak for entering.

Please send your tips to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Tuesday for a chance to win a Taunfawn or M8-R3 droid code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Tait Watson announced a surprise double XP weekend that ran from Friday 27 March through to midnight on Sunday 29 March.
  • The Rakghouls are back, once again plaguing Alderaan. We confidently predict they’ll be eradicated (again) by next Tuesday 7 April.
  • With the completion of the Choose Your Path promotion, all subscribers should receive on each character a lockbox containing four Advanced Black-Purple Striated Colour Crystals. Note that there is currently a bug which prevents them from being unlocked via Collections on other characters (for a nominal fee in Cartel Coins). However, you can unlock them in Collections for each character by inserting each Color Crystal into a weapon, after which you can create as many of each that you want.
  • Game Update 3.1.2 should be deployed on Tuesday 7 April. It includes a fix that will prevent now-defunct Planetary Commendations from being sent via in-game mail as part of lower-level mission rewards.
  • Game Update 3.2 is still on the PTS. We have the following updates from last week:
    • The Kurtob Alliance Speeder will not be made adaptive (thus it will remain at 110% with Speeder Piloting I).
    • Armor weight restrictions have been removed from the Outfit Designer.
    • A Reddit user noticed some significant changes to the rewards offered via the Group Finder.
    • John Jarynowski posted some advice about commenting on class changes.
