OotiniCast Episode 221

This week’s episode was recorded immediately following the SWTOR livestream. We cover what was revealed, and give our thoughts and reactions.

1. Introduction

Here are the knitted Jawa and Bantha that Chill received from a family friend:

Chill - knitted Jawa & Bantha Chill - knitted Jawa & Bantha 2

Below is Chill’s Twitter revelation of a mysterious package received from Australia…

So I got a package from Australia...

Chill - rage 1

…it has something in it, some nameless fear from Down Under…and a card…

Chill - rage 2

…AAAAAGH! The dreaded dropbear! Australia’s deadliest!

Who would dare put this on a mere postcard?

Chill - rage 3

“Hello from Australia!” Meant to soften the horror of the dropbear, no doubt…

but what else is oozing forth?…

Chill - rage 4

…the rage! It is eating at my very soul!

Chill - rage 5

2. Tip of the week

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Kelly M! Thanks to Javadoggy, Cole and Knite for entering.

3. Holofeed

  • The Conquest rewards that failed to be delivered for the week before last will arrive in Game Update 3.3.2.
  • The issue of randomly de-selected weapons and systems in GSF continues, and could affect any starfighter whenever the owning character logs in.
  • The Zakuul Dropship Mount is now available on the Cartel Market for 1500 CC.
  • Makeb’s Staged Weekly is being removed from both factions in Game Update 4.0. That means that six achievements (three for each faction, under the categories Citizens of Makeb and Makeb Imperial Forces respectively) will be removed from the game.
  • Any third-party software used in conjunction with SWTOR is prohibited under their Rules of Conduct, included ReShade.
  • The livestream that was held in lieu of the Community Cantina at PAX Prime was held on Wednesday 26 August, and featured Michael Backus, Ben Scott and Eric Musco. There was no mention of the crafting changes coming in Game Update 4.0 (more information on that in coming weeks), but there was plenty of information about companions. You can find summaries of the livestream at Dulfy and TORC.

He also linked us to these cartoons.

Here are Leto/Myro’s jokes:

Q1. Why was Obi-Wan Kenobi able to perform sai tok on Darth Maul (i.e. slice Darth Maul in two)?
A1a. Darth Maul was a n00b and used the wrong defensive cooldown.
A1b. Force Shroud didn’t work against the attack.

Q2. Why was Darth Sidious able to 1-shot 3 Jedi Masters (Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, Kit Fisto) in the Revenge of the Sith?
A2a. They forgot to change to their expertise gear.
A2b. There was an FPS drop, and they were caught in a cleave.

Q3. Why did so many Jedi fall in the arena in the Battle of Genonosis?
A3a. They forgot to learn Saber Reflect from the class trainer.
A3b. They were bads and pulled before the healers zoned in.

Q4. Why did Anakin Skywalker loose his hand to Count Dooku?
A4a. Dual Saber wielders (Sentinels) are squishy.
A4b. Guarded by the Force still cost health points.

Q5. Why was Mace Windu able to perform sai cha on Jango Fett (i.e. decapitate Jango Fett)?
A5a. Jango’s (PT) burst damage had just been nerfed.
A5b. Jango was LOSed from his healer.

Q6. Why did the Death Star get destroyed?
A6. There were more terribads playing GSF on the Imperial side

Q7. During their fight in the Great Convocation Chamber of the Senate, why was Darth Sidous able to knock Yoda off a repulsorpod/senate pod?
A7a. Yoda’s resolve bar had just reset.
A7b. There was a lag spike and Yoda’s Force Barrier didn’t activate.

Q8. Why did Darth Vader lose to Obi-Wan Kenobi when they battled on Mustafar?
A8a. Darth Vader wasn’t using Force Scream in his rotation (i.e. Vader is a nub who needs to learn to force scream).
A8b. Vader had just switched to the Empire and was less familiar with the Imperial proc and ability icons.

Kal sent us the most boring colouring book ever:

OotiniCast Episode 220

We cover some diverse topics this week, including Game Update 3.3.1, the highlights of Disney’s D23, and the rumours of a KOTOR remake. In our discussion, we look at the population trends in Ranked PvP over time, consider the Season 6 rewards teaser, and then come up with many ideas on how to improve Ranked PvP.

1. Introduction

2. Tip of the week

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Teadra!

Please send your tips to ootinicast@gmail.com by next Tuesday for a chance to win a Taunfawn or M8-3R droid code, courtesy of BioWare, and an OotiniCast-provided Cartel Market pack from the latest shipment.

3. Holofeed

  • Game Update 3.3.1 was deployed during a 7 hour maintenance on Tuesday.
  • The top 10 guilds in last week’s Conquest failed to get their rewards. This will soon be fixed.
  • It seems that Game Update 3.3.1 may have caused some GSF starfighter weapon selections to become unselected.
  • Those who achieved the Gold tier in Season 6 have received a truly exclusive variant of the Nexu in Game Update 3.3.1.
  • The Zakuul Knight Armor Set (which intentionally does not contain bracers) is now available for purchase on the Cartel Market for 1440 CC.
  • While it seems that information about Knights of the Fallen Empire, now only 8 weeks away, has been somewhat slow to emerge, Eric Musco (Community Manager) assures us that we’ll find out more soon.
  • As another example of how analytics guides developer choices, EA’s Star Wars Battlefront does not have a solo campaign mode because their player metrics indicate that the overwhelming preference is for multi-player only.
  • This Reddit thread summarises an article from a DICE developer explaining how game marketing works.
  • Disney’s D23 this year included a new D23-exclusive poster for Episode VIII “The Force Awakens”:

The Force Awakens D23 poster

  • There are rumours that KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) will be remade for next-generation consoles (Playstation 4 and Xbox One) for release in the latter half of 2016.

OotiniCast Episode 218

We discuss James Ohlen’s presentation of SWTOR at the EA press conference at Gamescom, which included the new “Become the Outlander” gameplay trailer. Later we delve into the depths of how bad Star Wars and SWTOR humour can get.

1. Introduction

If you don’t want to wait for Windows 10 to update automatically (which could takes days or weeks), download the media creation tool from Microsoft. Right-click on Computer and select Properties if you’re not sure whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit CPU (most likely you’ll want the 64 bit version!).

3. Holofeed

  • All players who made it into the Gold tier at the end of Ranked PvP Season 5 have now been sent the Nexu mount. Those who received the Nexu by mistake will get to keep them. Given the Nexu is no longer exclusive, BioWare will provide an exclusive item to all players from the Gold tier in Game Update 3.3.1.
  • Electronic Arts held its Q1 2016 Earnings Conference Call.
  • During the EA Gamescom press conference held on 5 August 2015 in Cologne, Germany, James Ohlen was on stage to talk about SWTOR. You can see the entire SWTOR segment from the press conference here. It included the new “Become the Outlander” gameplay trailer (also on YouTube). 3. Holofeed

  • To be eligible for early access to Knights of the Fallen Empire (which commences on 20 October, 7 days ahead of its launch on 27 October), you must be subscribed from midnight 31 July (Pacific) through to at least 19 October.
  • If you have upgraded to Windows 10 and are now having issues with SWTOR, please visit this thread and help the developers sort out what’s wrong. If you are affected, some suggestions on how to proceed can be found in this Reddit post. If you choose to reinstall, we would suggest copying into a new folder, as described in our guide.
  • Patch 3.3a was deployed on Tuesday. Included was returning the regular warzone queue to normal, as the PTS change which limited the queue to Civil War, Voidstar and Novare Coast had made it to live.
  • Alex Modny made it clear that BioWare wants Ranked PvP to be about direct competition, and not about gearing up. Given that goal, it makes sense that the Ranked PvP weekly mission rewards a small number of Season 6 tokens (the equivalent of a Ranked PvP loss).
  • Win traders in Ranked PvP continue to be identified, with rating resets either on the offending character, or all characters on the player’s account. The resets can happen mid-season, though they are always done before the rewards are sent out at the end of the season.
  • If you have ideas for new animal mounts to be added to the game, please contribute to this thread its details with (if possible) a picture. On the first day the thread was already up to 31 pages!
  • The Community Cantina planned for PAX Prime in Seattle in late August has been cancelled. In lieu of that, BioWare is holding a livestream on Wednesday 26 August, later in the day Pacific time.
  • The next Community Cantina will be held in conjunction with Gamescom in Cologne, Germany on Thursday 6 August and Friday 7 August. Registrations are open now!
  • Courtney Woods’ latest short story, Brothers, has been published.
