OotiniCast Episode 316

We discuss what was (and wasn’t) in Game Update 5.4a, along with its fraught patching process, which led to extending the bug granting sweet, sweet CXP from the non-Iokath daily areas for another few weeks.

1. Introduction

Here are the two screenshots that Chill referred to, taken while playing Chil

3. Holofeed

  • The number of Strongholds per legacy remains at six, rather than being increased to make room for the Umbara Stronghold.
  • If you somehow (e.g., via a guildship summons) end up in the room in which you can purchase the Umbara Stronghold without having attained the key, do not buy the Stronghold!
  • With Game Update 5.4 there came a bug that meant that daily missions in Czerka, Oricon, Black Hole, Yavin 4, Ziost and Section X are awarding 1125 CXP, rather than the intended 75 CXP. This will continue until Game Update 5.5. Keith recommends we all take advantage of this largess; he certainly is!
  • Game Updaet 5.4a was deployed on Thursday morning, 31 August. It did not go well, with nearly 9 hours of downtime following the end of maintenance as they sorted out their patch deployment.
  • The guild management interface, particularly when it comes to selecting multiple members, is severely broken at the moment.
  • You can get the biggest Lego set ever, another Millennium Falcon!
  • Discover the mythology of the Darksaber.
  • While the box art of Kylo Ren’s TIE interceptor may show yet another Death Star, it would appear that it’s not going to make an appearance any time soon.
  • An actor explains why the Star Wars movies and TV series are more canon than the comics and novels.

OotiniCast Episode 310

Plenty of news to cover this week, including Game Update 5.2.2, upcoming class changes, more detail on Keith’s Roadmap, and BioWare’s new game “Anthem”. Then our guest Synwulf talks us through fan theories for Snoke’s origin and the identity of Rey’s parents.

1. Introduction

Chill has discovered a subtle element of the Sucker Punch animation:

2. Tip of the week

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Quercus! Thanks to Rob and Javadoggy for entering.

Here’s Rob’s tip about extending your camera max view distance:

SWTOR has the ability to alter the amount that you can zoom out in game – by default, it’s a fair amount, but it can be extended dramatically by adding a simple line to a file on your computer.

Make sure the game is NOT open, since the file may be in use or revert back once you close the game. Find the folder –

C:\Users\YourProfileName\AppData\Local\SWTOR\swtor\settings

Obviously, YourProfileName is whatever your Windows profile name is, which is most likely your name or your pet name for your manhood. Whatever, I am not here to judge you on your Windows user name.

The AppData folder is hidden since it’s a system folder, so you can either manually type that folder address into your RUN command line or change your Windows Explorer settings to show hidden folders.

Then find the file named: LoginName_Account.ini and open it.

After opening the file look for the line that says: Controls_CameraMaxDistance = 25.0

Change that 25.0 to something else like 50.0 or if you have a large monitor, 75.0 or 100.0 (the .0 is important).

I use 100 and it allows for some great field of view, which is super important and useful in PvP – if you’re guarding a node, you can see incomings easily, and it also gives you the ability to get some great views of scenery.

For example, here’s a shot of the fleet, with me in the middle.

OotiniCast Episode 308

Quite a bit of news to get through, including some teasers from Keith on his upcoming road map. Then returning guest Ivilon, a professional composer, discusses the new music in Knights of the Eternal Throne, and the state of non-John Williams Star Wars music.

1. Introduction

There are two Ootini guild events planned by Ducky (AhnNu) for Saturday 3 June, both on Tatooine:

  • Where in the World of Tatooine is Carrman? Find an AhnNu incarnation somewhere out in the Dune Sea.
  • Ootini 500 Race! Course will be announced at the event, but it’s suggested that you open up as much of the Tatooine map as you can.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for both events are creature-based mounts.

To find out more, get in touch with our Ootini guilds!

2. Tip of the week

Congratulations to this week’s winner, Ivilon!

Ivilon’s tip is to listen to songs on repeat with tempos that match that of the cooldown of giving a companion a gift, modified with however many levels of the character perk that speeds up that gift-giving that you have:

  • No perk: 2 bars at 136 bpm (beats per minute)
    • Love Shack (The B-52s)
    • Sorry for Party Rockin (LMFAO)
  • Level 1 perk: 2 bars at 162 bpm
    • I Feel Good (James Brown)
    • Happy (Pharrell Williams)
    • Shake it Off (Taylor Swift)
  • Level 2 perk: 1 bar at 100 bpm
    • Rock your Body (Justin Timberlake)
    • Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
  • Level 3 perk: 1 bar at 152 bpm
    • Message in a Bottle (The Police)
