  • The first subscriber promotion for 2018 is the Share your Love of SWTOR with friends campaign, running until 27 March.
  • BioWare is considering making in-game events happen more often and/or concurrently, though no change will happen in the short- to medium-term.

  • The fifth and last encounter in the Gods of the Machine Operation, Izax, will offer unique rewards if defeated between Game Update 5.8 (13 March) and Game Update 5.9 (April).

  • The Ranked PvP Leaderboard has been disabled while BioWare determine why incorrect data is being displayed.
  • Kieth’s Roadmap for 2018 is still weeks away, but in the meantime Eric Musco has provided a summary of what’s in Game Update 5.7 “Legacy of the Creators” coming on 23 January.
  • Class-exclusive companions Risha, Corso (Smuggler only) and Andronikos (Inquisitor only) will return in Game Update 5.7. At least for now, there is no way for the other classes to add these companions to their Alliance.
  • The only hint we have so far that there will be a SWTOR expansion in 2018 is this Twitch chat entry from Keith:

We go into detail on what came in Game Update 5.6.1, Jeremy (Darksplat) returns for his annual appearance on this show, and Chill has a trivia question which comes with some very nice Life Day prizes!

Jeremy mentioned emerging more or less intact from a nasty car accident. The Force was with him that day!

Jeremy also mentioned his holiday to New Zealand, including Rotorua (famous for its hot springs and geysers) and Hobbiton (the movie set converted into a tourist attraction).

He also mentioned the fan theory that Rey is a Mary Sue.

3. Trivia Question

Star Wars movie posters are famous for their “combination of characters” design, which started with the original, featuring an oddly muscular Luke and an overly sexualized Leia, done by the Hildebrandt brothers. Every movie since then has had a primary movie poster that was a collage of characters. Rogue One is Rogue One in that its collage-of-characters poster has an unusual feature, which it shares with only one of the other, episodic movie posters up to and including The Last Jedi. A feature for the purpose of this question is something or someone appearing, not appearing, or appearing in a particular way. What is this feature, and what one other movie does it share it with? For example, one feature of most of the posters is that a main bad guy looms in the back. But that happens on the Rogue One poster, so that isn’t it. By the way, you can ignore the animated Clone Wars movie poster, but for the record, it doesn’t share this feature with Rogue One, either.

  • Game Update 5.6 was released on Tuesday, with an accompanying launch trailer. There remain some outstanding issues.
  • The rewards from Daily areas have been unintentionally reduced; they will be tripled in 5.6.1 coming on 12 December.
  • Some unintentional passive bonuses have made some disciplines more powerful (in terms of damage and/or healing output) than they should be; this will be rectified in a “future update”.
  • EMP Missiles in GSF are doing half the damage they should be to their primary target.
  • CXP boosts gained from Command Crates are no longer restricted to specific Command Rank ranges (e.g., 1-179). Existing boosts retain any such restriction.
  • Character transfers are now live, with the special price of 90 CC (intra-region) and 150 CC (inter-region). These prices will change to the new price for all transfers (1000 CC) on 12 December with Game Update 5.6.1.
  • The Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire VR (Virtual Reality) experience sounds truly amazing.
  • Rian Johnson (director of The Last Jedi) talks briefly about the new Star Wars movie trilogy he will be directing. Hope remains that it could be set in the Old Republic era.
  • EA’s is experiencing trials and tribulations over its microtransaction strategy, as seen in Star Wars Battlefront II.
  • Christopher Tolkien resigned as director of The Tolkien Estate at the end of August, which may have had something to do with the subsequent sale of TV rights to Amazon.

  • United Forces is here, with the SWTOR servers collapsed down to five with an extended maintenance to deploy Game Update 5.5.1.
  • Darth Hexid is confirmed to be account-wide.
  • The short story “Copero” gives a brief introduction to the new Flashpoint’s setting.

  • While the warzone set on Yavin 4 has been delayed by a couple of weeks until Game Update 5.6.1 due on 12 December, the rest of Game Update 5.6 is on track to arrive on 28 November. It includes the Master’s Datacron, an insta-boost to level 70.
  • Game Update 5.5.1a fixed the issue affecting some players who’d temporarily lost some items in their merged Legacy Cargo Bays.

  • EA has published its Form 10-Q, the quarterly report for the quarter ending with September.
  • EA announced shortly before the launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2 that it was suspending in-game microtransactions for the short term.
  • It seems that there’s suddenly a lot of hope that Disney will produce a trilogy of movies set in the Old Republic era. From what Kathleen Kenedy (LucasFilm) actually said, it’s hard to draw any kind of meaningful conclusion.
